TWO ENSEMBLES PROJECT & LUCIA WALKER SOLO - Belfast
South African based dancer Lucia Walker will present a programme of work at the Cresent Arts Centre as part of Echo Echo’s Festival of Dance and Movement. In the first piece she will lead a band of movement artists comprised of Echo Echo’s ensemble and an ensemble of 4 Russian guests in an improvisation piece which will be accompanied by two Derry-based musicians. Through the past week Lucia has been working with the ensembles spending half of their time dancing together in the studio and the other half going to schools, community centres and outdoor spaces to perform 30 minute instant compositions. The second piece will be a solo performance by Lucia Walker. Lucia is an internationally renowned artist and Alexander technique teacher. She has been practicing and teaching Contact Improvisation since 1986. She first encountered the form in workshops with Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark-Smith and Kirstie Simson.
Lucia Walker is a dancer, Contact Improvisation and Alexander Technique teacher based in South Africa. For the first part of this programme Lucia will lead the Echo Echo Ensemble and a guest Russian Ensemble in the performance of a beautiful 30 minute instant composition in collaboration with local musicians Amanda Koser, Joleen McLaughlin and Stephanie Pawula. The programme will conclude with a one-off solo performance from Lucia.
Lucia has been leading the two ensembles in a series of 30 minute performances around a variety of city spaces and places. This community performance programme has been in partnership with, among others, Ardnashee School and College, Sevenoaks Care Home and the Inner City Trust.
